Low reflectance optical fibre mirrors were fabricated using mechanical splices and pieces of fibre coated at the cleaved end with a TiO2 dielectric film. When fibre mirrors of reflectance of ~0.1% were produced, the insertion loss ranged from 0.055 to 0.3 dB and the average insertion loss was 0.15 dB.
