Gain-flattened EDFA with high Al concentration for multistage repeatered WDM transmission systems
EDFAs with high Al concentrations are optimised for wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) transmission systems. Gain excursion is succesfully suppressed to within 0.02 dB/nm/stage for the six-stage common amplification of WDM signals ranging from 1545 to 1557 nm. This result shows the possibility of multistage repeatered WDM transmission without gain equalisation.
