A complex fuzzy adaptive filter based on the RLS algorithm is presented. The inputs and outputs of the fuzzy filter are both complex valued. The fuzzy filter, used as an adaptive equaliser, is applied to 4-QAM digital communication with nonlinear complex channel characteristics. The bit error rates of the fuzzy equalisers are close to those of the optimal equaliser.
