Abstract

Optical time domain reflectometry (OTDR) at a wavelength of 1.55 μm using a semiconductor laser source is reported for the first time. The apparatus uses a PINFET optical receiver and can detect the Rayleigh scatter signal over 30 km of single-mode fibre installed in duct.
