Proposed is a novel way of inserting a propagation stop frequency band for dual-band operation of a leaky wave antenna (LWA). To make the LWA resonate at two frequencies, the stopband is introduced into an existing passband, which induces two specific conditions giving maximum radiation towards a boresight direction at the resonant frequencies locating on both sides of the stopband edge. All experiment results show good agreement with theoretical predictions, which proves the validity and effectiveness of the approaches.
