Fast chromatic dispersion estimation for coherent optical transmission systems

Abstract

Proposed is a fast chromatic dispersion estimation scheme for coherent fibre-optic transmission systems. The scheme uses an alternating signal sequence as a pilot, which enables chromatic dispersion (CD) values to be estimated quickly and accurately. Experimental results show that the scheme can achieve fast and accurate CD estimation with only 0.4% of the pilot signal overhead in 100G-class coherent optical transmission systems.
