The use of signal phase is proposed for in-band clock distribution in on-off-keying optical time division multiplexing (OTDM) to realise robust clock recovery and channel identification. A stable 43 GHz clock recovery from a 215 Gbit/s OTDM signal and demultiplexing to 43 Gbit/s signals have been successfully demonstrated.
