Proposed is an electrolytic-capacitor-less AC/DC on-board charger for electric vehicles. To remove the high-voltage electrolytic capacitor, the proposed charger uses a rectified AC type link voltage generated by an isolated resonant converter, and harmonic and charge controls are achieved through a discontinuous conduction mode buck–boost converter. It provides normal control operation under wide input voltage range with only a single control loop. The feasibility has been verified with a 3 kW prototype.
