With the rapid development of new technologies, the life of products is shorter and shorter, so it is necessary to realize product itself sustainable development, which could be achieved by adopting information-based remanufacturing upgrade during the remanufacturing process. By remanufacturing upgrade the function and performance of the product can be enhanced continually and the upgrade process could transform product service condition from static into progressive. Therefore upgraded products can meet increasing needs of people within their total life cycle. This paper aims to examine the significant role and position of remanufacturing upgrade, describes the main approaches, process steps and influence factors of remanufacturing upgrade. At last a case on lathe's numerical control remanufacturing upgrade is studied as an illustration.
