The timestep Δt is said to be compatible with a signal if it fits the signal's period an integer-number of times. The compatibility ensures PWM carrier frequencies (assumed constant) are sampled exactly at their peaks and zero-crossings, which avoids aliasing. This exact (compatible) fit avoids the 2nd-harmonic problem in RMS measurements. It is also assumed that the signal frequency (60 Hz) is constant.

Inspec keywords: pulse width modulation; power system measurement; signal processing; power system transients; power system harmonics

Other keywords: signal frequency; signal period; frequency 60 Hz; 2nd-harmonic problem; multicore simulation; RMS measurements; power system transients; PWM carrier frequencies; integer-number

Subjects: Signal processing and detection; Power supply quality and harmonics; Modulation and coding methods; Power system measurement and metering
