Coatings and insulation
It has become clear from earlier discussion that the lamination of cores is needed to restrain eddy currents and to allow rapid flux penetration into the bulk of a core. Such lamination is only efficacious if adequate insulation is maintained between layers. The application of a suitable coating can ensure that insulation between sheets is adequate. There are other motivations for having a coating present.
