Cost and quality issues
Steel metallurgists find great satisfaction in producing top-quality steels with first class magnetic properties. Machine designers, similarly, wish to produce top-quality machines. Unfortunately both are bound within economic restraints to produce products which are marketable and profitable. For the steel-maker compromises have to be made in the direction of reduced costs. This usually involves: choice of steel composition, choice of rolling and heat treatment regimes and choice of coatings.
