Systems Engineering defines an approach for realising successful Systems (INCOSE, 2014). Model-based Systems Engineering provides an approach for using Models to realise the artefacts of a System based on a set of modelling Views (Holt and Perry, 2013). This section introduces the main concepts that comprise the MBSE Metamodel that will be used throughout this book. The first step is to define exactly what we mean when we refer to `Systems' and `Models'.
