The birth of high definition television
This chapter presents the evolution of high-definition television. Of all the contributions made by individuals towards the realisation of an all-electronic television system, none were of greater importance than those of Dr. V.K. Zworykin. His invention and development of the iconoscope, and his development of the cathode ray tube as a television display tube (which he called a kinescope) were outstanding in conception and execution.
