For approximately ten years until 1995, the late Mr. J.A. Lodge, formerly of Thorn -EMI's Central Research Laboratories, had charge of all CRL's pre-war archives. Prior to his death in 1995, he had carried out an exhaus tive examination of the extant files relating to Blumlein's work on sterophony and had written a comprehensive account of the experiments which Blumlein and his colleagues had undertaken from 1933 to about 1935. Ill-health prevented Mr. Lodge from publishing his work. However, knowing of the author's intention to write a biography of Blumlein, Mr. Lodge suggested that his findings might be included as an appendix. The author was pleased to accept this generous offer, and all seven sections of the paper are given here verbatim.
