This chapter brings together accounts of the work in a number of fields of engineering, much of which over many years was on behalf of the Fraser and Chalmers Works (a part of GEC from 1918 to the early 1960s), responsible for the development and manufacture of steam turbines to drive electrical generators. The second section deals with work on carbon and its applications in arc lights and batteries, as well as other work on the latter. There was also, for some 25 years, work on behalf of Fraser and Chalmers Works on equipment for mineral dressing; this is described later in this chapter.
